The One Reason You Should Get Away

You’re here. In this place where, for the most part, you feel at home. Yet, every so often you walk past somewhere or touch something that instantly reminds you of what happened. Perhaps you learn to live with the pain and the sad memories become a part of your everyday routine. Imagine, though, if you were somewhere that had no memories attached. Somewhere fresh. Who would you be free to be?

PERSPECTIVE. Mental growth is all about perspective. Getting away from everything that serves as a reminder is like a factory reset for your brain. In the beginning, I just snuck away on daytrips. After time, I moved away which had the most healing power. Even so, living in the same place again has its power diminished because I lived away for so long. It doesn’t bother me.

First of all, identify a place that is safe and you would like to go. You may have to take someone you trust with you. I did not go alone at first. I was still too on edge to venture away by myself. Once I reached my destination town, I was dropped off to walk around on my own. There was a clear pick-up location and time. It was daytime and there was no crowd. Had these factors been different, I would have been disabilitated.

Maybe a daytrip is not feasible. Go anywhere away for as long as you can. The library is a great place to get out of your head. The local park. The key thing to remember is perspective. Change the world around you so the world inside you can change.

What places can you think of that are safe and quiet? Maybe not even quiet, but safe and adventurous? Be Better. Do Different.
